Student of the Game
A man recently called me a “Student of the Game.”Being a student of the game can be applied to every aspect of your life. It means you are seeking to gain knowledge and learn how to improve. Wherever I go I take notes and write down what I learn so I can take it and apply it.
You have to go the extra mile and work harder than anybody else…that is the key to becoming a world champion. Being a student of the game means more then just practicing but practicing to get better each time. It means studying every aspect of the game and then applying what you study. Learn from your mistakes and use it as fuel to get better.
A student of the game never gives up, if you get knocked down you keep fighting and never quit. It means doing all the small drills that may not be fun but make you better. A student of the game does not make excuses, they keep an open mind and listen and apply. This is how they become successful.
A student of the game doesn’t just focus on the physical part of the game. They focus on becoming better mentally and physically by seeking help and doing all the small things no one else does and that is what separates the good from the great.
A student of the game does not just apply to rodeo. If you want to be the best you can be at whatever it is in your life you have to be willing to learn what it takes and then work hard for it. Today I challenge everyone to work to become a SOG “Student of the Game.” -Conner Essick
